James Steward

James Steward is an independent designer based in Leeds.

Having moved to Rome in 1998, James received an apprenticeship at the internationally acclaimed fashion house 'Gattinonu Couture'. Their client list covered Audrey Hepburn and Eva Peron to Arabian royalty. It was here that James was exposed to dress design, pattern cutting and embroidery design using the finest Swarovski crystals. Although all the credit went to the fashion house, James Stewards designs were gracing the pages of Italian Vogue, photographed by the likes of Peter Lindbergh, Ellen Von Unwerth and Steven Meisel.

Upon returning to the UK, James moved to Leeds where he set-up a boutique called, Aqua Couture with friend Julie Lingard, making an immediate impact on the northern city with his unique and eye-catching designs, combining his valuable couture skills and passion for creating statement individual pieces.

James Stewards work was soon recognised across the country and attracted such clients as Kylie Minogue, Victoria Beckham, Tara Palmer Tomkinson and Lady Victoria Hervey.

James Steward is also the twice winner of 'Yorkshire Brides Couture Designer of the year', for his bespoke wedding dress designs - Unbridaled.

James Stewards bridal designs (Unbridaled) has received further acclaim recently, being taken on by Coronation Street to design and produce the gowns for on-screen weddings, working closely with the costume department at ITV and actresses themselves. James' stunning gowns were transmitted into more than 13 million homes nationwide and millions more magazines.

Influenced heavily by fashion history and creative fashion cutting, James Steward's designs are both timeless and feminine. Each individual piece is born from a long research process with the main aim being for the wearer to fully appreciate what they have and to feel both comfortable and deliciously attractive!
